‘Devastated’ By Test Omission, Nathan McSweeney Joins Brisbane Heat For Big Bash League

Australia’s Nathan McSweeney has been brought back into the Brisbane Heat squad for the second match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 season after he was released by the national team for the rest of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. McSweeney will strengthen the side after their opening match ended with a roaring success for the team.

McSweeney, who has led the Heat to a title win previously, will now play under the leadership of stand-in skipper Colin Munro. Munro is also a seasoned Kiwi batter and has been named for the second match of the season against the Adelaide Strikers.

Brisbane Heat’s BBL campaign off to a flying start after an 8-wicket win over Melbourne Stars in their opening match at Melbourne Cricket Ground. The team suffered an early blow as it was confirmed that the services of keeper-batter Tom Alsop will not be available for the season with the player suffering a quad strain before even playing.

McSweeney’s return to the team will be an added boost for the Heat as they look to maintain momentum in the ongoing tournament.

Nathan McSweeney was suddenly dropped from Australia’s Test squad for Border-Gavaskar Trophy to which he expressed his disappointment and said: “Yeah, I mean devastated, I get the dream come true and then didn’t quite work the way I wanted,” McSweeney told Channel 7

Brisbane Heat Squad: Colin Munro (c), Tom Banton, Nathan McSweeney, Xavier Bartlett, Max Bryant, Daniel Drew, Matthew Kuhnemann, Jimmy Peirson, Matthew Renshaw, Mitchell Swepson, Paul Walter, Tom Whitney, Jack Wildermuth, Tom Straker
