Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad has achieved unprecedented success after its re-release in theatres on September 13. It has also become the highest-grossing re-released film, beating Ghilli, which had earned 26.50 crore in 2000.

The film opened on a good note and made more than a crore every day in the first week. Day 1 collection was 1.65 crore, followed by 2.65 crore on Day 2, 3.04 crore on Day 3. The second week also saw a continuous increase in footfall and by the Day 12, it made 23.66 crores.

Made on a budget of 15 crores, the Rahi Anil Barve, Anand Gandhi directorial could not strike the right chord with the audience when it first released in 2018. It hardly collected 13.5 crore during its theatrical run. However, after the film got available on OTT, it gradually found its audience and became a sleeper hit. Today, Tumbbad is a critically appreciated piece of art, with a perfect blend of entertainment to keep the audience glued throughout.

Competition From Devara: Part 1

While Tumbbad was showing no signs of slowing down, the release of Devara: Part 1 will affect its business, share Trade experts. The much-awaited NTR Jr film is already making headlines for record-breaking advance bookings. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have together accumulated ₹35.98 Cr from 5,347 shows with 66% of seats already booked.

On the other hand, Karnataka has collected ₹5.79 Cr from 1,320 shows, with 32% of seating capacity filled already.

Across the globe, the film is making an equally strong impact with an astounding sale of ₹51 Cr. This includes advance bookings and premier collection. In North America alone, the film’s pre-sales have surpassed $2.5 Million. This is NTR Jr’s second film after RRR to create a wave of this scale, and this has further solidified NTR Jr.’s star power internationally.
