Delhi-Mumbai Expressway: 4-Km Aravalli Tunnel Completed; Gurugram To Vadodara Travel Time Reduced To 10 Hours

The government of Modi has been persistently constructing highways, expressways, tunnels, and flyovers with the objective of shortening travel time to reach major urban centers of the country. In that regard, the expressway construction connecting Gurugram with Vadodara in Gujarat is almost complete.

Tunnel Through Aravalli Hills: A Game Changer

The most difficult aspect on this route was a tunnel through the Aravalli hills of Rajasthan which has now been constructed. The tunnel will not only shorten the distance between these two urban centers, but it will also greatly reduce the time taken for the journey. It is anticipated that the journey time from Gurugram to Vasodara will be in the range of only 10 hours instead of the current time of 20 to 22 hours.

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway: India’s Largest Expressway Project

The government is building an expressway from Delhi to Mumbai, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs 1 lakh crore, and over 80% of the work has been completed. This 1,380 km distance is thought to be the largest expressway in India, which is built in various ways. The route from Delhi to Dausa is complete and open to traffic. Now, with the completion of the 4 km tunnel, expressway work is almost complete and is expected to open for traffic before October 2025.

Key Route Through Rajasthan And The Mukundra Tunnel

The majority of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway runs through Rajasthan, with the route continuing to the Kota district after the Dausa stretch of work is complete. A tunnel, approximately 4 km in length, is under construction between the two districts, close to the Mukundra Hills, and it is nearing completion. After completion, the expressway will run directly through the areas of Mukundra Hills, breaking through the entire hilly region. The tunnel is being built as a double lane access, with one tunnel you have completed and the second tunnel nearing completion. The tunnels provide an access point through the Mukundra Tiger Reserve for vehicle travel without harming the surrounding wildlife.

Strategic Corridor From Rajasthan To Gujarat

The expressway moves right towards Gujarat after crossing the tunnel at Mukundra Hills, which creates a corridor connecting the Kota area of Rajasthan to Vadodara in Gujarat. The present expressway ends at Vadodara and connects with yet another section of the expressway which leads directly to Mumbai. Thus, once the Delhi-Mumbai expressway is completed, you will be able to travel from Delhi to Mumbai in a mere 12 hours, as compared to other means of travel which take 24+ hours.

Expressway Design, Speed And Economic Boost

The government is constructing the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway as an 8 lane highway, roughly 21 meters in width. It has also been designed for expansion to 12 lanes in the future without any issues. This highway will also enhance economic development and tourism. Finally, developments of highways are designed to involve higher speeds, allowing the vehicle to travel at speeds of 120 km/h.
