Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension section of the Delhi Metro on January 5, 2025. This new 2.8-kilometer stretch is part of the Delhi Metro’s Phase IV and marks a significant milestone in expanding the metro network in the capital.

The inauguration took place at 3 PM, with passenger services starting immediately. With this addition, the total number of stations in the Delhi Metro network has reached 289, covering a total distance of 394.448 kilometers. The new Krishna Park Extension station will enhance connectivity for residents in West Delhi, particularly benefiting areas like Janakpuri and Vikaspuri.

This project is valued at approximately ₹1,200 crore and represents the first operational segment of the Phase IV expansion. The Magenta Line, to which this extension belongs, will eventually span about 40 kilometers once fully completed, with further extensions planned to RK Ashram Marg by 2026.

In addition to this metro extension, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for the 26.5 km Rithala-Kundli corridor, which aims to improve connectivity between Delhi and Haryana. This corridor is estimated to cost around ₹6,230 crore and will significantly enhance transport options for commuters in both regions.

Overall, these developments are part of a larger initiative to modernize Delhi’s infrastructure and improve public transport ahead of upcoming elections. The new metro services are expected to ease traffic congestion and provide a reliable mode of transportation for thousands of daily commuters.
