The Delhi International Airport operator, whose majority is owned by GMR airports, sued the Centre after the latter allowed commercial flights to be operated from a defence aerodrome. The case is to be heard

According to a report published in Reuters, the airport made a loss of $21 million despite 73.6 million passengers having used the airport in 2024. The airport incurred losses because of higher government fees, the report cited.

In a March 10 lawsuit, the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said it would become “financially unviable” after the Centre allowed commercial flights from Ghaziabad’s defence airbase to operate commercial flights.

Reuters reported the DIAL told the Delhi high court in the lawsuit that the Centre has violated aviation rules by allowing another airport to operate within 150 kilometres of aerial range from an existing one.

The Airports Authority of India has a stake in DIAL. The Centre has not responded yet to the issue.  The Centre has not responded yet to the issue.

DIAL wants the Centre to withdraw its decision to operate the defence airbase for commercial flights. Air India Express is going to start its operation from the end of March.
