Cyber Scammers Targeting Pilgrims At Maha Kumbh; UP Police Urges Booking From Official Website | Check Details Inside

As the Maha Kumbh festival approaches, cyber scammers are targeting pilgrims looking to book accommodations in Prayagraj. The Uttar Pradesh Police has issued a warning to help people avoid falling victim to these scams.

Rising Cyber Scams

With millions of devotees expected to attend the Maha Kumbh starting January 13, 2025, scammers are taking advantage of the situations by creating fake websites and booking links that promise low-cost accommodations. These fraudulent sites often lure unsuspecting pilgrims with attractive offers, only to steal their money.

Awareness Campaign

To combat this issue, the UP Police has released an awareness video featuring Bollywood actor Sanjay Mishra. In the video, Mishra advises pilgrims to book their stays only through the official website, kumbh.gov.in, and to be cautious of any suspicious offers. The police have also shared a list of authorized hotels and guest houses for safe booking.

Police Measures

The UP Police is actively monitoring online platforms to identify and shut down fake websites. They have already identified over 40 fraudulent sites that mimic well-known companies. Additionally, a dedicated cyber police station has been established in Prayagraj to address these threats and provide support to victims.

Safety Tips For Pilgrims

Book Only Through Official Websites: Always use registered platforms for hotel bookings.

Verify Links: Before making any payments, check the website’s authenticity.

Stay Informed: Follow UP Police’s social media channels for updates on scams and safety tips.

By staying vigilant and following these guidelines, pilgrims can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience during the Maha Kumbh without falling prey to cyber fraud.
