Colombo Stars will be up against Galle Gladiators in the third match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2021 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Monday, December 6th, from 7:30 PM IST.
Colombo Stars had a successful run in the inaugural edition, finishing at the top of the table with six wins from eight games. However, they lost to Galle Gladiators in the semi-final clash. Colombo Stars have some big names in their side this time around.
The likes of Tom Banton, Kusal Perera, Dinesh Chandimal, Pathum Nissanka, Sherfane Rutherford and Chris Gayle are some notable names in the batting department. In Dhanajaya De Silva, skipper Angelo Matthews, they have decent all-rounders followed by the likes of Akila Dananjaya, Lakshan Sandakan, Ravi Rampaul and Dushmantha Chameera in the bowling department.
On the other hand, Galle Gladiators, who lost the final last season, started with a comprehensive win over Jaffna Kings in the first game. Batting first, they posted a challenging total of 164/7. Bhanuka Rajapaksa carried his brilliant form from the Abu Dhabi T10 League, scoring 56 runs while Samit Patel scored a crucial 42. Jaffna Kings were bowled out for just 110 runs. Samit Patel put up an all-round show by picking up three wickets. Mohammad Hafeez and Pulina Tharanga scalped a couple of wickets each.
With the win, they moved to the top of the table right away as well. Galle Gladiators will look to build on the momentum as they will be keen to go the extra mile this time around. Meanwhile, it will be important for Colombo Stars to make a positive start. They will also be eager to avenge their defeat against the Gladiators from last year’s semi-final.
As two of the top teams in the league face off once again, it should be a thrilling contest of T20 cricket on the cards.
