Congress’ Manish Tewari takes veiled swipe at Harish Rawat after latter’s ‘time to rest’ hint – Here’s what he said

A day after veteran Congress leader from Uttarakhand and former chief minister Harish Rawat created a buzz by hinting that it was time for him to “rest” from active politics, his fellow party member Manish Tewari took a veiled swipe at the former by listing out the states Rawat had managed and what happened in the aftermath.

“First Assam. Then Punjab. Now Uttarakhand…..Bhog poora hi paun gaye…Kasar na rahe jawe koi,” Tewari said.

Rawat, who is the campaign head of Congress in poll-bound Uttarakhand, on Wednesday alleged non-cooperation from his party.

He said that the Congress will have to adopt the Bharatiya Janata Party’s tactics of strengthening regional leaders if it wishes to regain power at the Centre.

“Isn’t it strange that the organisational structure at most places, instead of extending a helping hand, is standing with its head turned away or playing a negative role at a time when I have to swim across the ocean of elections. The powers that be have left crocodiles there. People on whose orders I have to swim, their nominees are tying up my hands and feet. I am invaded by thoughts. A voice from within sometimes tells me it is enough Harish Rawat, you have swam long. It is time to rest. I am in a dilemma. The new year may show me the way,” Rawat said in a series of posts on Twitter on Wednesday.

When media persons asked Rawat’s media advisor Surendra Kumar about the former CM’s tweets, he alleged that “some forces within the party are playing into the hands of the BJP”.

“There is no alternative to Harish Rawat in Uttarakhand. He is the most popular leader in the state who has kept the party flag flying. But there are some forces playing into the BJP’s hands to mar the possibility of the Congress making a comeback in the state,” Kumar said, according to news agency PTI.
