Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge targeted the Modi government over the delayed response to the Pahalgam terror attack during the Congress Working Committee in the national capital on May 2.  Kharge said the government has ‘not presented a clear strategy’ to deal with the aftermath of the attack that claimed 26 lives on April 22. But, he reiterated that they will give all possible support to the government in the fight against terrorism.

‘Govt has no clear strategy’

The Congress president said, “Even after several days of this incident, no clear strategy has come from the government.”

In his opening statement at CWC, he said,  “After the Pahalgam terrorist attack, an urgent meeting of the CWC was held on 24 April. In that, we passed a resolution and said that we will give all possible support to the government in the fight against terrorism and in teaching a lesson to the terrorists.”

‘Govt will have to give a befitting reply to terrorism’

Congress leader Sachin Pilot said, “This attack is not just on tourists, this is an attack on India. The Government has the support of 140 crore Indians and all political parties…Rahul Gandhi and Kharge ji have said that we are with the Government in this hour of crisis but they will have to give a befitting reply to terrorism. All the resources available to the Government of India should be gathered and give such a reply that such an incident can never take place in future.”

Pahalgam Terror Attack

On April 22, terrorists attacked tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, killing 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen while leaving several others injured. It was noted that this attack came in the wake of the successful holding of elections in the Union Territory and its steady progress towards economic growth and development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also assured the country that the terrorists responsible for this attack, along with those who conspired it, will face punishment beyond their imagination, The Prime Minister asserted that the time has come to eliminate the remaining strongholds of terrorism and that the willpower of 140 crore Indians will now break the backbone of the perpetrators of terror.
