Chris Morris responds to Sunil Gavaskar’s ‘RR interested in increasing followers on social media’ remark

Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) are struggling to gain momentum in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) as the team has so far won just four out of their ten matches in the tournament. They might not be living up to the expectations of the fans on the field, but RR are a hit on social media with their Twitter admin being one of the funniest.

After RR’s 7-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Royals’ pacer Chris Morris was asked to comment on legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar’s statement where the latter said RR were interested in increasing the number of their followers on social media.

In response to the journalist’s question, Morris said, “it’s his opinion, end of.”

RR had shared a video of the incident on their Twitter account with a caption that read, “100-150 followers kam kar de, par qualify kar de.” (reduce our followers by 100-150 but qualify us for playoffs).

Samson has produced several big knocks while leading the Royals in IPL 2021 but his knocks have gone in vain with no support from the other end.

Reacting to his team’s loss against SRH, Samson said after the match, “I think it was a decent score. The wicket was a bit sticky, they were bowling well. We could have got 10-20 runs more. On a sticky wicket once you get a start you need to keep ongoing. I wanted to keep going after the powerplay but we kept losing wickets, so I wanted to stick on and have a partnership. We wanted to put on a respectable total to fight back. But we got what we had targeted after the timeout.”

In the UAE leg of IPL 2021, RR kicked off their campaign with a thrilling 2-run win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) but went on to lose the next two matches against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Ahead of the auction, Royals made a big move by releasing skipper Steve Smith – who was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) at his base price of Rs 2 crore. Rajasthan Royals are the winners of the opening edition of IPL in 2008 which they won under Shane Warne’s captaincy.
