This time a mega auction is to be held for IPL 2025. The BCCI has not yet taken any decision regarding the retention of players. Meanwhile, big information is coming from Chennai Super Kings. According to a media report, Chennai Super Kings is preparing to make a big decision regarding its veteran player Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Players A Franchise Can Retain

BCCI recently held a meeting with the franchise owners. In this, the team owners shared their views on the retention number. Many franchise owners wanted that a maximum of 8 players should be allowed to be retained. At the same time, many were in favor of retaining 5 or 6 players. According to the report, some franchises were not interested in retaining even a single player. Now it is up to the BCCI to decide how many players it allows to be retained.

Special Demand By CSK

Many media reports have claimed that Chennai Super Kings had requested BCCI in the meeting to reinstate the old rule. This rule was to keep retired players in the category of uncapped players. Under this rule, Chennai Super Kings can retain Team India’s legendary captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as an uncapped player, which can give them a chance to retain Mahendra Singh Dhoni at a very low price.

BCCI Is Deliberating On The Decision

According to a Cricbuzz report, the BCCI is going to postpone the announcement of retention rules till the end of September. Earlier the deadline was set till August. The report claims that the board is reportedly seriously considering the request of Chennai Super Kings as Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s stay in the IPL will benefit not only the franchise but also the IPL.

Chennai Super Kings Can Take A Big Decision

This report of Cricbuzz claims that Chennai Super Kings wants to retain Mahendra Singh Dhoni at any cost. Even if BCCI allows retaining only 2 players, the franchise will still retain Dhoni.
