Chelsea Competes With Man United For Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel

Chelsea is said to be keen on securing Borussia Dortmund’s goalkeeper, Gregor Kobel, as a possible successor to Robert Sanchez. Following Sanchez’s latest errors, which have sparked worries about his reliability, the Blues have been meticulously evaluating their goalkeeping alternatives. Although head coach Enzo Maresca has openly supported Sanchez, the club is proactively searching for a more dependable choice that aligns with their tactical and technical requirements. Chelsea’s interest in Kobel coincides with their efforts to bolster the team, with the Swiss goalkeeper also drawing interest from crosstown competitors Man United. The Blues are resolute in their quest for a sturdy, long-term answer between the posts.

Kobel’s Transfer Complicated By Dortmund’s Champions League Push

Kobel’s excellent shot-stopping and distribution have placed him high on Chelsea’s list of potential signings. Nevertheless, Borussia Dortmund is reluctant to sanction a transfer during the season, particularly as they are deeply involved in the Champions League. The German club is through to the Champions League knockout stage and will play either Sporting CP or Club Brugge to reach the last 16, with a possible encounter against Lille or Aston Villa awaiting them there. Dortmund’s commitment to the tournament renders a January transfer for Kobel improbable, even though Chelsea see him as a possible successor to Robert Sanchez.

Chelsea Faces Competition And Negotiation Hurdles In Pursuit Of Kobel

Man United are also keeping tabs on Gregor Kobel, tracking his progress in the Bundesliga due to their own goalkeeping worries. Andre Onana’s inconsistent displays since his arrival from Inter have highlighted these concerns. Nevertheless, with manager Ruben Amorim concentrating on overhauling different aspects of the team, the club’s short-term attention might not be on acquiring a new shot-stopper. Chelsea’s primary hurdle will be in discussions with Borussia Dortmund, who are expected to be very reluctant to part with their first-choice goalkeeper unless a deal they simply can’t refuse is presented. Furthermore, Chelsea has already finalised a deal for Belgian keeper Mike Penders from Genk, with the player due to arrive in the summer.
