Champions Trophy 2025: Trophy Tour Kicks Off In POK Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

In a major move, Cricket Pakistan has kicked off the Champions Trophy 2025 trophy tour, starting in Islamabad on November 16. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed the tour’s venues via Twitter, which includes key locations in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), a region at the center of ongoing territorial disputes.

PCB Includes PoK In Champions Trophy 2025 Tour

Among the cities listed for the Champions Trophy tour are Skardu, Hunza, and Muzaffarabad, all of which are located in the disputed PoK region. The inclusion of these territories in the promotional tour has sparked controversy and is seen by many as a political statement. The move comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on November 10 that India would not be traveling to Pakistan for the tournament, citing security concerns.

Tensions Escalate As BCCI Refuses To Visit Pakistan

In response to India’s decision, the PCB formally requested an explanation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding India’s withdrawal from the Champions Trophy 2025. The Indian board’s refusal to send its team to Pakistan has ignited tensions, with the PCB accusing the BCCI of politicizing the matter.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry Weighs In On The Champions Trophy Controversy

As the situation intensifies, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has issued a statement addressing the matter, claiming there is no back-channel diplomacy between India and Pakistan regarding the participation of India in the 2025 Champions Trophy. With less than three months to go until the tournament, the uncertainty surrounding India’s participation is causing delays in finalizing schedules.

Hybrid Model Proposal And Uncertain Future Of The Champions Trophy

India has reportedly been pushing for a “hybrid model” for the tournament, which would see some matches played in Pakistan and others in neutral venues. The ICC has also inquired with the PCB about the feasibility of this model, but the PCB has firmly denied the possibility.

With no clarity on India’s stance and the looming diplomatic tensions, the future of the Champions Trophy 2025 remains uncertain, especially with the official schedule still pending.
