The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has unearthed a Rs 400 crore corruption case while investigating the recovery case involving former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, his secretary Sanjeev Palande, personal assistant Kundan Shinde and ex-Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze.
After the massive corruption case came to the fore, the CBI has sought 10-day custody of Sachin Waze, Sanjeev Palande and Kundan Shinde from the Special CBI court in Mumbai.
As this case was registered in Delhi, the CBI sought permission from the Special CBI Court to grant transit remand and take all four of them to Delhi for interrogation, in the corruption case.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Anil Deshmukh, Sanjeev Palande and Kundan Shinde, while the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested Sachin Waze.
Last week, a Mumbai court allowed the CBI to take his custody in a separate corruption case. Former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh had alleged that Deshmukh, then-home minister, had given a target to police officers to collect Rs 100 crore per month from restaurants and bars in the city.
Deshmukh denied the allegations, but resigned from the state cabinet in April last year after the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to register a case against him. The senior NCP leader’s aide Kundan Shinde and dismissed police officer Sachin Waze are also in CBI custody in the corruption case.
