Canada: Khalistani Outfit Threatens To ‘Siege’ Indian Consulate In Vancouver

Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), a US-based Khalistani organisation, has threatened to “siege” the Indian Consulate in Vancouver on Thursday, issuing a call for Indians and Indo-Canadians to avoid visiting the mission.

The separatist group also shared a poster of India’s new High Commissioner to Ottawa, Dinesh Patnaik, with a target mark on his face.

Allegations of Spy Networks and Surveillance

In a statement, the group accused Indian consulates of operating a spy network and conducting surveillance against Khalistan supporters.

They claimed that the threat was so serious that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had to provide witness protection to Inderjeet Singh Gosal, who took over leadership of the Khalistan Referendum campaign following Nijjar’s death.

The SFF stated that through this “siege,” it aims to hold accountable those involved in what it described as espionage and intimidation on Canadian soil.

This follows a recent internal report by the Canadian government, which indicated that extremist Khalistani groups continue to receive financial backing from individuals and networks within Canada.

Khalistani organizations Cassified Under Politically Motivated Violent Extremism

According to the 2025 Assessment of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Risks, several Khalistani organizations, including Babbar Khalsa International and the International Sikh Youth Federation, are classified under Politically Motivated Violent Extremism (PMVE). The report suggests that these groups may exploit funding channels, including non-profit and charitable organizations, to advance their agendas.

The assessment defines PMVE as the use of violence to create new political systems or to alter structures and norms within existing ones. These Khalistani organizations are designated as terrorist entities under the Canadian Criminal Code, alongside groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

India has long expressed concerns about Khalistani extremists operating from Canada, but these warnings have largely gone unheeded. The PMVE threat in Canada has primarily emerged through Canada-based Khalistani extremists (CBKEs), who aim to establish an independent state called Khalistan, mainly in Punjab, India.
