Can Cristinao Ronaldo Finally Lift The FIFA World Cup? Here’s What Carles Puyol Thinks So

Carles Puyol, the famous football star of Barcelona has been very categorical in his support of Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portugal national team by claming that they are the definite prop over to win the FIFA World Cup 2026. The 2010 World Cup champions Puyol observed that the team led by Roberto Martinez has demonstrated outstanding grit especially in the wake of their triumph in the UEFA nations league final. The preceding defender was directly stated whether Ronaldo and his companions could win the first World Cup in the history of Portugal and this is what he said.

“Yes, that’s how I see it,” Puyol replied via TUDN.

He continued, “They have a very good national team. Their players play for big clubs and win a lot of titles. They are very competitive and have a good coach… As things stand today, I think they are a very dangerous team.”

“He takes extremely good care of himself. He lives for football. His statistics as a centre forward speak for themselves,” Puyol said.

Portugal’s Performance In FIFA World Cup 2022

Portugal was labeled as having a significantly fluctuated trajectory at the FIFA World Cup 2022 with a 3-2 win against Ghana in the opening Group H game where Cristiano Ronaldo helped anchor the group with goals from Joao Felix and Rafael leao. They were further on a roll, as they took down Uruguay 2-0, with Bruno Fernandes getting both goals. However, a 2-1 defeat against Korea Republic at the last group rivalry was capable of knocking them out thus the Portuguese had to win.

Portugal ended up crushing Switzerland in the Round of 16, securing a clear victory by 6-1, with hattrick performed by Goncalo Ramos. This trophy search journey of the team culminated in its quarter-final exit at the hands of Morocco (1-0), sending Portugal back home with the team out of the semi-finals and ending its participation.
