California Governor Gavin Newsom Announces White House Bid

California Governor Gavin Newsom  corroborated that he may contest the next presidential elections in 2028.

The Times of India quoted Newsom during an interview with CBS News, where he said he would be “lying” if he denied contemplating a White House bid.

“I’d just be lying. And I’m not — I can’t do that,” Newsom said.

Later, he attempted to frame his remarks as speculative, stating that any decision is years away and that destiny would decide.

The Democratic leader is reportedly not focused on re-election as governor and appears increasingly interested in national politics. He has started visiting key primary states and hosting debates to sharpen his debating skills.

Newsom has also become more active on social media and frequently targets Republican leaders. His recent activities have further fueled speculation that he might be preparing for a White House run in 2028.

Newsom and former President Donald Trump have often locked horns on social media. Newsom has been critical of Trump’s policies-most recently over the deployment of National Guard troops, a move that was later blocked by a court.

“A federal judge BLOCKED Donald Trump’s unlawful attempt to DEPLOY 300 OF OUR NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS TO PORTLAND. The court granted our request for a Temporary Restraining Order HALTING ANY FEDERALIZATION, RELOCATION, OR DEPLOYMENT of ANY GUARD MEMBERS TO OREGON FROM ANY STATE. Trump’s abuse of power won’t stand,” Newsom wrote on X.

The latest order came after Trump ordered California Guard personnel into Oregon following an earlier court decision that had prevented him from mobilising Oregon’s own Guard troops.

“After a federal court blocked his attempt to federalise the Oregon National Guard, Donald Trump is deploying 300 California National Guard personnel into Oregon. They are on their way there now,” Newsom said in a separate post.
