Ex-students have come forward against RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s Dr. Sandip Ghosh with allegations of corruption and malpractices, including paying bribes to become in-house staff and registration cancellation for speaking up against the malpractices. Dr. Ghosh was under probe in connection with the rape-murder of a trainee doctor on August 9.

As reported by News 18, Former students told that a racket was operating at RG Kar, describing it as being under the control of a “medical mafia.”

Ex-RG Kar Students Accuse Dr. Ghosh of Retaliation And Corruption

Dr. Chandramouli Jha, an ex-RG Kar student seeking a PG from Kolkata, protested against Dr. Ghosh in 2021. “We protested corruption and poor hostel facilities, even going on a hunger strike. But our protest was quickly shut down. Dr. Ghosh had my registration canceled, and I had to go to court to get it back. There is a threat syndicate at RG Kar. To become in-house staff, you have to pay money to TMCP or the student wing of the Trinamool Congress. MLA Sudipto Roy is also involved,” Jha alleged.

Even Dr. Mainak from the same batch had similar problems and added that his registration was stayed after he raised his voice in protest.

Dr. Ghosh Accused Of Racket And Corruption

Sources from the hospital alleged that Dr. Ghosh used to run his own racket and some students used to work for him. “Even to speak with Dr. Sandip Ghosh, we had to go through the TMC students’ wing,” some doctors complained. Dr. Ghosh is accused of various charges ranging from bio-waste trafficking to selling corpses.

CBI To Investigate Hospital Finances

The Central Bureau of Investigation is going to take over the financial irregularities in the hospital by Saturday morning, following a Calcutta High Court order. Doctors believe these financial issues are crucial and think everyone involved should be investigated by the CBI.
