Brahmastra director Ayan Mukerji reveals he didn’t want Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt to step out together during the shoot – here’s why

After a long wait and delay, fans of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt got a reason to cherish, when the motion poster of their highly-anticipated sci-fi adventure, Brahmastra – Part 1 got released on December 15. In the small clip, we saw RK in a fierce avatar. The cine-goers are waiting to see mesmerising chemistry between the real-life couple on the silver screen.

While we are expecting this mega-budget film to set benchmarks at the box office, director of the film Ayan Mukerji revealed that he never wanted anyone to see RK and Alia as the couple before the release of his film. In fact, in the last 4 years, the filmmaker was after the duo to not come out in public as a couple.

“To be honest, when we started our film, I thought this is the best casting- Ranbir and Alia, powerhouses. It was just too good. Then Ranbir and Alia became very good friends, then very very very good friends in life, then more than friends. So then, I didn’t want the whole world to see them for these 4 years. I didn’t want anyone to see them till my film had not come out. So, Lots of things haven’t happened in their lives because every time they went out together, I would be sitting at the back saying ‘you all are ruining my film. Please don’t go anywhere.’ It feels good now that we can share them,” said Ayan at the poster launch event at Hyderabad.

When Karan Johar was asked to comment on Ayan’s statement and the power couple, he said, “Ayan is very protective about this pair. But, I think he has lost leverage. Had he come out with this film a few years ago then keeping them under wraps would have been a good idea. Unfortunately, you can’t curb love that long. At its heart, it’s a love story.”

Brahmastra, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Dimple Kapadia and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles, will be released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam languages. SS Rajamouli will present the south versions of Brahmastra. The first part of the trilogy will hit the screens on September 9, 2022.
