Whenever India plays with Australia there are headlines in both Hindi and English about the great temperament that the game sets up for the viewers. For Australia there are two big bilateral series in world cricket which is the Ashes played between Australia and England Every two years. Cricket fans rally for the Ashes series – a five-match test cricket series played between Australia and England. The other one is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia. The Ashes is considered as the premier event but former Australian cricketer Mark Waugh has some different take on this. He says,
“India-Australia Test series has taken over and it is bigger than the Ashes”
For over two decades now, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been one of cricket’s greatest rivalries matches only to the Ashes and the India vs Pakistan matches. After gaming the Australians in their last two visits to Australia in 2018-19 and 2021-22, the Indians are back for a summer of cricket which will certainly send the temperature soaring oath off the ground and on the field.
Though the Ashes has more of the traditional stories related to the game but what makes the Border-Gavaskar a tournament to watch out for is the quality of cricket that India is delivering for the past few years. The runners up at the ODI world cup 2023, the T20 world cup 2024 are few examples to be quoted. They deliver a high standard cricket which the viewers love to watch. The amount of appreciation that the people abroad along with the Indian diaspora furnishes upon the Indian players is exhilarating to witness. It would be interesting to watch how Rohit and company perform in the BGT as it is followed by IPL and the performance in the BGT can really help the players to be prepared for this tremendous tournament.
