The first three months of 2025 have witnessed some major Bollywood and South Indian releases with only a few films dominating the box office while other struggled to even make an impact. Among them, Chhaava has set a benchmark leaving other films behind in terms of collections. Let’s take a look at how the top releases have performed so far.

Chhaava: A Massive Hit

On the top is Vicky Kaushal’s film Chaavaa, that has emerged as the biggest hit of the year so far. The historical drama has collected Rs. 545 crore at the box office. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the movie resonated with its audience due to its power packed performances and intense story line.

Sky Force : A Decent Performer

Sky Force, starring Akshay Kumar, Veer Pahariya and Sara Ali Khan has managed to secure the second position by earning Rs.131.44 crore at the box office. The patriotic drama struck a chord with a section of audience but it could not reach the blockbuster status many expected.

Empuraan : Still Running Strong

Empuraan starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is doing really well in theatres. Even though there’s been a lot of talk and drama surrounding it, on Day 9, it earned ₹3 crore, taking the total to ₹91.2 crore in India. Most of the money has come from the Malayalam version, which made ₹83.3 crore. The dubbed versions Tamil version earned ₹3.13 crore, Telugu ₹2.42 crore, and Hindi ₹2.06 crore. The film’s worldwide has crossed ₹236.25 crore, according to Sacnilk.

The Controversy Surrounding Empuraan

Empuraan has some made up scenes about the 2002 Gujarat riots, where Prithviraj’s character, Zayed Masood, is shown being affected. These scenes caused a stir some and the makers of the film decided to approach censor board (CBFC) to make voluntary cuts to the film.. They have already made several changes including changing the name of Abhimanyu Singh’s character, cutting down violent scenes, removing references to a religious place, and more.

Despite all the noise and problems, the movie is a big hit and fans are now excited for the next part of the series, which started with Lucifer in 2019.
