BJP leader Khushbu Sundar’s Twitter account hacked; ‘hope it does not spread hate’, says former Tamil actor

Amid a national uproar over foreign hackers targeting social media account and personal numbers of politicians and journalists in India, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Khushbu Sundar’s Twitter account was hacked on Tuesday.

The former Tamil cinema actor said that she will give a written complaint about the hacking to the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police.

She also appealed to the hackers to not incite violence using her account.

“Since all the tweets are deleted or archived by this hacker, I hope it does not spread hate, incite violence, or personally attack someone. Also, it should not be used for any anti-national activity,” Sundar told news agency ANI.

An international media consortium had on July 18 (Sunday) reported that more than 300 verified mobile phone numbers, including that of two serving ministers, over 40 journalists, three Opposition leaders, one sitting Judge, business persons and activists in India could have been targeted by hackers through the Israeli-made Pegasus spyware

The central government has dismissed the allegations of any involvement or surveillance on its part, stating that the rumours “have no concrete basis or truth associated with it whatsoever”.

The Congress party accused the Centre of “treason” and held Union Home Minister Amit Shah responsible for the hacking of mobile phones belonging to journalists, politicians and judges. They even demanded a thorough investigation into the “role of the Prime Minister” in the entire incident.

However, the ruling BJP hit back at the ‘grand old party’, and said that “there is not a shred of evidence” that links them or the Modi government with the hacking.
