Bihar Voter List Revision Sees Surge In Deletion Requests – Nearly 2 Lakh Objections, 30,000 Inclusions Filed

The ongoing voter list revision campaign in Bihar has taken a new turn. Nearly 2 lakh people have filed objections for deletion of names, while the applications received for inclusion are less than 30,000, the Election Commission has shared the detailed details of this process for the first time, when the last date of September 1 is now just two days away.

Since the release of the draft list on August 1, 1,97,000 applications have been received for deletion of names and 29,872 applications for addition of names. Earlier these figures were presented together, making it difficult to understand how many names were being included or deleted.

Meanwhile, there has been a significant increase in the registration of new voters. According to the Commission, 13.3 lakh Form-6 applications have been submitted by youth who have completed the age of 18, out of which more than 61,000 have been settled. Also, the election registration officers have resolved 33,771 other cases within the stipulated time limit.

There are currently 7.24 crore names in the draft voter list, but if all the new applications are accepted, this figure may increase further.

Along with this, the Commission has sent notices to about 3 lakh voters whose information has been found suspicious or who do not have sufficient documents of citizenship. This has created the possibility of deletion of more names in addition to the 65 lakh names already removed.
