Big Upset In WTC, Even After Winning The Series, Danger Looms Over This Great Team

England has won the 3-Test match series by defeating Sri Lanka by a margin of 2-1, but despite this, clouds of crisis have started looming over the England team. Despite winning this series, England has suffered a loss in the points table of the World Test Championship. This loss has made England’s path to the final of the World Test Championship even more difficult.

England Slipped To Sixth Place

After losing to Sri Lanka by 8 wickets, England’s team has suffered a loss in the World Test Championship points table. After this defeat, England reached the sixth position in the points table, even below Sri Lanka. England has won 8 out of 16 matches and its points percentage is 42.19%. At the same time, Sri Lanka is in fifth place with a points percentage of 42.86%.

Who Will England Match Against Now?

The England team will now tour Pakistan in October 2024. At the same time, the team will tour New Zealand in November-December. England has to play 3-3 Test matches on both tours. England will have to perform well in both these series, otherwise, the team will lag behind in the race for the final.

How Will England Qualify For The Final?

This time the championship did not start well for England. England first drew the home series against Australia 2-2 and then the team had to face defeat by a margin of 4-1 against India.

England will now have to depend on the performance of other teams to reach the final of the World Test Championship. Even if England wins all its remaining 6 matches, it can achieve a maximum of 57.95% points percentage. On the other hand, India’s current points percentage is 68.52% and Australia’s points percentage is 62.50%.

In such a situation, the England team would want Team India to lose 6 out of its remaining 10 matches or Australia to lose 4 out of its remaining 7 matches. Only if this happens, the England team can reach the final, otherwise the team will be out of the race for this final.
