Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee strongly criticised party leader Abhishek Banerjee, claiming that he was removed as his lawyer at the last moment in the ongoing signature forgery case.
Calling the move “humiliating” and “insulting”, Kalyan said that TMC chief Mamata Banerjee now needs to decide whom she wants to stand with.
Kalyan Banerjee, considered one of Mamata Banerjee’s loyal supporters, said, “I am with Mamata Di, but she needs to choose now. It is too humiliating. Choose us or Abhishek.”
Calcutta High Court grants interim protection to Abhishek Banerjee
Earlier in the day, the Calcutta High Court granted interim protection from arrest to Abhishek Banerjee in the alleged signature forgery case. The court also directed him to appear before the West Bengal CID by 6 pm on Thursday.
Abhishek Banerjee is currently in Delhi.
Kalyan Banerjee calls Abhishek ‘Too arrogant’
Speaking to India Today, Kalyan Banerjee accused Abhishek Banerjee of disrespecting senior leaders and said he had never trusted him.
“He does not know how to respect seniors. Abhishek never trusted me and he will never trust me. Who is he? Such an arrogant person. Because of him, the party has been destroyed,” Kalyan Banerjee said.
Kalyan says he challenged CID searches
Kalyan Banerjee claimed that he was present when the CID conducted searches at his residence and at Mamata Banerjee’s residence in connection with the alleged forgery case. He questioned why two witnesses, whom he claimed had links with the BJP, accompanied the investigating team.
He also said that he had filed a petition against the CID’s search operations.
Another lawyer replaced him, claims Kalyan Banerjee
According to Kalyan Banerjee, he was preparing to appear in court when he was informed that senior advocate Kishore Datta would represent the matter instead.
He said that both the forgery case and the petition against the CID searches were linked, and replacing him without prior notice was unfair.
“Am I to be treated like a dustbin?” Kalyan Banerjee asked while expressing his anger over the development.
He further claimed that his son informed him on Wednesday night that another lawyer had also been appointed for the forgery case and that his services were no longer required.
