The veteran star allrounder Shakib Al Hasan to continue play until he is proven guilty after being named in a murder case during the Bangladesh unrest.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had received a legal notice asking for Shakib Al Hasan to be removed from all forms of the game.
The BCB official earlier stated that they would take a call on Shakib’s future after the 1st Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.
The situation came into the limelight when Shajib Mahmood Alam, a lawyer of the Supreme Court, sent legal notice to the board. The notice stated that Shakib is involved in a case and cannot represent Bangladesh and has to be brought back for the investigation.
After this notice, the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board stated, ‘He (Shakib Al Hasan) will continue playing. We received a legal notice regarding bringing him back and we replied them saying this [that he will continue to play],’ BCB president Faruque Ahmed was quoted in a leading Bengali Daily Prothom Alo on Tuesday.
‘Right now the FIR is filed and it is in the initial stage and there are lot of steps after this and until he is proven guilty we will make him play. The Bangladesh team will go to India after the Pakistan series and we want him in that series as well’.
‘He is our contracted player and if necessary we will give him legal assistance,’ he added.
Despite all this, Shakib will travel to England to play a four-day match for Surrey as he will not return home with the Bangladesh side after the Test series against Pakistan.
