Since India’s modern day greats Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired, it has been observed that Team India’s Head Coach Gautam Gambhir is keen on establishing a new team now. Meanwhile, India is searching for a new Test captain actively. It will be a daunting task for the management to replace players of the caliber of Rohit and Virat. Among those likely to take up the mantle, Shubman Gill is leading the captaincy race at present.

Captaincy Decision Expected Soon

It has been reported that a top-level meeting will take place in Mumbai on Friday, 16 May, where Gautam Gambhir is also likely to be present. The agenda for this meeting is to seal India’s new Test captain. Names likely to be tabled include Jasprit Bumrah, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant. With England’s tour around the corner, India is keen to answer the leadership question, although it presents a complicated challenge.

Tough Tour for Team India

The tour of England, starting 20 June, will be a true test for the rejuvenated Indian team. Test cricket performances in recent times have been disappointing for Team India. The team was defeated 3–0 at home, and then again by Australia, leading the management to think twice about its strategy.

Replacing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli not only as cricketers but also as captains will be one of the most challenging tasks on hand for the Indian cricket board in years.

Date Of England Tour

Team India will play 5-Tests in England starting on June 20. Ahead of the main Tour, an India A side will tour England for a two matches. The India A’s Tour was supposed to begin on May 30, after the completion of the IPL 2025.
