Team India continued its home dominance in Tests and registered a 14th consecutive series win by defeating New Zealand 1-0 in the two-match series. The visiting side managed to draw the opening Test match in Kanpur. But the Indian bowlers didn’t let the visiting batters settle down in Mumbai and dismissed them for a mere total of 62 in the first innings.

Setting a target of 540 in the final innings, India once again dominated the Tom Latham led-side and bowled NZ out for 167 to win the fixture by a big margin of 372 runs.

Despite the defeat, it was a memorable Test match for the Black Caps as their spinner Ajaz Patel became the only the 3rd bowler in the history of Test cricket to scalp all 10 wickets in an innings.

Ajaz was honoured by Team India and MCA following the fixture. Not just that, he also took home a sum of Rs 1 lakh, awarded to him during the presentation ceremony. Mayank Agarwal won the Player of the Match Award whereas R Ashwin bagged the Player of the Series Award.

Among those who were awarded during the presentation ceremony also included the name of Mitchell Santner. The NZ all-rounder wasn’t part of the playing X in the Mumbai Test but was honoured during the ceremony.

In the 47th over on day 1, Santner made his presence felt by saving a certain six. Shreyas Iyer hit a big shot off Will Somerville towards deep midwicket. Santner, who is one of the best fielders, timed his jump to perfection and brought the ball back into the play, thus saving 5 runs for his team. His acrobatic skills got much-deserved recognition and he went home with a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.

During the T20I series, Deepak Chahar was awarded Rs 1 lakh for staring at Martin Guptil. That stare was considered as the ‘Moment of the Match’.

The NZ team will now hit the field next year as it hosts Bangladesh for 2 Tests and 3 ODIs, starting January 1. The Indian players will jet off to South Africa soon for 3 Tests and as many ODIs.
