BCCI Gives Players The Permission To Stay With Wives For Champions Trophy, But On One Condition

A relief has come for the Indian cricket team, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has apparently consented and allowed the players to have their families with them during the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai. This comes after the board had issued a stringent 10-point directive, amending a number of rules after the controversy that surrounded the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

According to a Dainik Jagran report, the BCCI has allowed players to bring their wives and relatives along with them to Dubai, but with one condition. Players can bring their families along for only one game in the tournament. For this, the players will have to mutually agree on the match and apply to the BCCI, which will make the arrangements accordingly.

Earlier, the BCCI had only granted a window of two weeks for families to accompany players during overseas tours over 45 days, in addition to restricting personal support staff and commercial activities. For events that were shorter, such as the Champions Trophy, family members were not initially allowed to accompany players. But since the nature of the event, it has been an exception by the board to allow players to be accompanied by their families for one game. The particular game for which the players have requested this permission has not been revealed.
