BCCI Announces AGM On September 29, Key Topics Will Be Focused

The 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is scheduled to take place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bengaluru on September 29, 2024. State associations were notified of the AGM details on September 5, 2024, through formal notices. This AGM will also mark the inauguration of the highly anticipated High Performance Centre in Bengaluru.

A key point of interest for this AGM is that the election for a new BCCI secretary is not on the agenda. Despite speculation that Jay Shah’s successor would be elected during this meeting, following Shah’s appointment as the independent chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the AGM will not address this matter.

If the meeting proceeds as planned, the BCCI will need to convene a Special General Meeting (SGM) to elect a new secretary before Shah’s ICC chairman tenure begins on December 1, 2024.

The AGM agenda spans two pages and includes 18 points, covering standard discussions and decisions. Key topics will include appointing a new BCCI representative to the ICC, as Shah will no longer be eligible to represent the BCCI. This appointment will be crucial as the new representative must be well-versed in ICC proceedings.

BCCI President Roger Binny, whose hometown is Bengaluru, is expected to play a significant role in the AGM. There is speculation that Binny, who succeeded Sourav Ganguly as BCCI president in October 2022, could be appointed as the BCCI’s ICC representative.

Additionally, the AGM will review the ‘Report of the Internal Committee of BCCI formed under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy’ and consider approving new rules established by the Apex Council regarding domestic cricket.
