Bank Holidays In May 2025: Banks To Remain Closed On THESE Days – Check The RBI Holiday Calendar Here!

Banks will observe 12 holidays in May 2025, which may be nationwide or specific to certain states. Customers should take note of both public and regional holidays, as these may impact services such as branch visits, cheque clearing, and processing times.

While online banking will remain operational, it is advisable to plan and complete essential transactions in advance to avoid any delays.

Bank Holidays May 2025

On May 1 (Thursday), banks will be closed because it is both May Day and State Day in Gujarat and Maharashtra. This will affect banks in cities like Belapu, Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati, Mumbai, Nagpur, and other states.

May 4 – Weekend Holiday

May 9 (Thursday)- Guru Rabindra Jayanti

Guru Rabindra Jayanti is considered to be a state holiday. Kolkata banks will remain closed on the birth anniversary of the great Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore.

May 10 (Saturday): Second Saturday

National Bank Holiday; Indian banks will remain closed.

May 11 (Weekend holiday): Sunday

 

 

May 12 (Monday): Buddha Purnima

Buddha Purnima is a religious holiday observed in certain parts of the country. As a result, banks will be closed in cities like Agartala, Aizawl, Bhopal, Kanpur, and other areas.

May 16 (Friday): Sikkim Day

is observed in Gangtok, Sikkim, commemorating India’s 22nd state. Banks of the state will remain closed on the day.

May 18 (Sunday): Weekend holiday

 

May 24 (Saturday): Fourth Saturday

All Indian banks to remain closed.


May 25 (Sunday): Weekend holiday


May 26 (Monday): Kazi Nazrul Islam

Agartala banks will remain closed on the birth anniversary of a revolutionary writer and poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam. 


May 29 (Thursday): Maharana Pratap Jayanti

Public holiday; banks to remain closed in Shimla. 

Steps To Ensure A Hassle-Free Experience

Complete Important Transactions Early:
Deposit or withdraw cash, transfer funds, or clear cheques a few days before the holiday

Online Banking:

Sign up and register for online banking or mobile banking if you haven’t already. You can pay bills, transfer money, and check balances online even during holidays.

Withdraw Enough Cash:

In order to meet emergency, keep some cash on hand for urgent expenses since ATMs might be busy or temporarily out of service.

Schedule Payments:

If you have bills, EMIs, or other payments due around the holiday, schedule them in advance to avoid penalties.

Confirm the exact dates and services affected by checking your bank’s official website or app.

Plan Business Transactions:

If you run a business, arrange payroll, vendor payments, or major banking needs ahead of time.
