Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami Proposes Independent Rohingya Muslim Nation in Myanmar During Meeting With Chinese Delegation

Amid escalating tension between India and Pakistan,  another war-like situation may erupt in Bangladesh after demands have surged to create a separate nation for the Rohingya in Myanmar. The demand was made by the Pak-backed racial organisation Jamaat-e-Islami during a meeting with the Chinese Communist Party at a hotel in Dhaka.

An independent state should be created in Arakan state

Jamaat-e-Islami leader said that an independent state should be created in Arakan state where Rohingyas are in majority. Earlier, US Army officials met with the top officials of the Bangladesh Army.

The Chinese delegation met with the Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, led by Peng Jiubin, where the latter proposed an independent state.

Rohingyas are living in an inhumane state

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Syed Abdullah Mohammed Taher asserted that 12 million Rohingyas are living in an inhumane state, and providing them food and shelter is not a solution. He said a permanent solution is to settle them in the Arakan state as it is their land.

‘China shares cordial relations with Myanmar’

The Jamaat leader justified his proposal to China, stating that China shares cordial relations with Myanmar. The Chinese delegation assured Jamaat leaders they would communicate their message with the Chinese establishment. The leaders also requested the Chinese delegation to invest in the construction of Teesta Barrage, a second Padma Bridge and seaport.

Jamaat leaders also discussed regional security

The Jamaat leaders also discussed regional security with the Chinese delegation. It is expected that the Jamaat leaders may have discussed India with the delegation. China is going to invite Jamaat leaders to their nation.

On April 27, Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said Bangladesh wants peace in South Asia.

Bangladesh’s position on the current tensions between India and Pakistan

When asked about Bangladesh’s position on the current tensions between India and Pakistan, Hossain said, “Our position is very clear, we want peace in South Asia”.
“We do not want any major conflict to arise that could endanger the people of this region”, he told the reporters at the foreign ministry in Dhaka. “We want India and Pakistan to resolve the issue through dialogue,” he added.
