At least five people lost their lives after a wooden structure collapsed in Baraut city of Baghpat on Tuesday. The tragic accident occurred during the Bhagwan Adinath Nirvana Laddu Festival, where a wooden structure at the Manstambh complex suddenly collapsed. More than 50 devotees were trapped under the debris, leading to chaos and a stampede at the site. The ‘Laddu Mahotsav’ was organized by the Jain community in which over 20 people got injured.

Baghpat DM Asmita Lal said, “There was a Jain community program in Baraut. A wooden structure collapsed here, injuring about 40 people. 20 people were sent home after treatment, 20 people are still undergoing treatment. 5 people have died…”

UP CM Takes Cognizance

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took the cognizance of the incident in Baghpat district. He has directed the officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite the relief work. CM Yogi also gave instructions for proper treatment of the injured. Along with this, he has wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Arpit Vijayvargiya, SP Baghpat said, “Watchtower collapsed during the ‘Laddu Mahotsav’ program of the Jain community in Baraut. About 20-25 people were injured. 2-3 people are seriously injured, who are undergoing treatment…”

The incident took place at a pavilion on Gandhi Road, which falls under the jurisdiction of Baraut City Kotwali. Bloodied victims were rushed to the hospital in ambulances, while some had to be transported in auto-rickshaws due to a shortage of emergency vehicles.

Reports indicate that several Jain devotees have been injured. Upon receiving the information, the Baraut Kotwali Inspector, along with a police team, promptly arrived at the scene and launched a rescue operation. So far, no casualties have been reported.

Local police and municipal authorities are present at the accident site, working to determine the cause of the collapse. Rescue efforts are ongoing, and authorities are ensuring that all trapped individuals receive necessary assistance.
