Back-To-Back IED Discoveries Avert Potential Disasters In South Kashmir

In a major display of vigilance and efficiency, security forces in South Kashmir have successfully neutralized two back-to-back attempts by terrorists to target security personnel through the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

On Tuesday afternoon, an IED was discovered in the Habdipora area of Shopian district. According to a senior police official, the explosive device was detected during routine patrols. Following its discovery, a bomb disposal squad (BDS) was promptly summoned to the scene. The IED, which had been planted on the roadside, was successfully detonated by the BDS without causing any damage to the surrounding area or endangering local residents.

This incident follows closely on the heels of another potential disaster that was averted just a day earlier in Kulgam district. Security forces located an IED in the Reshipora Qaimoh area, once again during routine operations. The swift identification of this explosive device led to immediate action, with the bomb disposal team neutralizing the threat safely.

Authorities are praising the alertness and quick response of the security forces, which played a crucial role in preventing what could have been catastrophic incidents for both the local population and security personnel. The bomb disposal teams are continuing their work to ensure that all remnants of the devices are dismantled safely.

Investigations are underway to determine the origin and intended targets of these IEDs, as security has been further tightened in these areas.

Meanwhile, operations against terrorists are being carried out with full potential. A Pakistani terrorist, Saifullah, was neutralized in Handwara, North Kashmir, yesterday during an encounter with security forces. According to SSP Handwara, Mushtaq Chowdhury, the Pakistani terrorist had been active in the area for a long time and was involved in multiple attacks on both security forces and civilians. His elimination is a significant relief for the local population, said the SSP, adding that a cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK rifle, was recovered from the encounter site.
