Arvind Kejriwal Denied Interim Bail By Supreme Court

The Supreme Court  denied interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a corruption case related to the now-canceled liquor policy in the national capital. The court has asked the CBI to respond to Kejriwal’s bail request and scheduled the next hearing for August 23.

Singhvi calls it an insurance arrest

Senior Advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Mr. Kejriwal, told the bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan that the situation is “strange.” He explained that Mr. Kejriwal was granted interim bail in a Prevention of Money Laundering case on May 10 and later received interim bail from the Supreme Court in July. Additionally, a lower court granted him bail in a CBI case. Singhvi referred to Mr. Kejriwal’s imprisonment as an “insurance arrest.”

Arrest Of Arvind Kejriwal ‘Malicious’

Senior lawyer Abhishek Singhvi argued in court that the CBI’s arrest of Mr. Kejriwal, nearly two years after the case was filed, was legally unjustified and appeared to be done with bad intent. He mentioned that they had requested interim bail, asserting that Mr. Kejriwal would easily meet the necessary legal criteria. ”
