Arab Leaders Defiantly Thwart Trump’s Gaza Vision With $53 Billion Power Play- US, Israel Slam The Move As Naive

In a significant move, Arab leaders firmly opposed Trump’s Gaza vision by approving a $53 billion Egyptian-led reconstruction plan for Gaza. This initiative is widely seen as a challenge to the former U.S. president’s “big dream.” Unlike Trump’s “Middle East Riviera” vision, this package aims to rebuild Gaza without displacing Palestinians from the enclave.

Egyptian president Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi lauded Arab leaders’ proposal. Hamas has subsequently welcomed the plan, which was rejected by the United States and Israel. The plan had been accepted at the closing of a summit hosted in Cairo.

What Exactly Is $53 Billion From Arab Leaders

The $53 billion package from Arab leaders was endorsed at a Cairo summit that was held on March 4. The pkg seems to be a counterproposal to the US president Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza. The plan Led by Egypt is an initiative that aims to reconstruct the war-torn enclave over five years while keeping its roughly 2 million Palestinian residents in place.
It emphasizes emergency relief, infrastructure rebuilding, and long-term economic development, with a vision of governance by a technocratic “Gaza Administrative Committee” under the Palestinian Authority (PA) sidelining Hamas. The plan also pushes for a two-state solution, a stance long supported by Arab states but rejected by Israel’s current leadership.

Why The US And Israel Are Rejecting It

The White House has completely dismissed the plan, insisting that Hamas, which was labeled a terrorist by the state cannot remain a power in Gaza.

US Rejection: Trump’s “Middle East Riviera” vision involves displacing Palestinians and redeveloping Gaza under US-backed control—a stark contrast to the Arab-led reconstruction plan. While Arab nations focus on rebuilding without forced displacement, the White House has rejected their proposal, arguing that Hamas—designated a terrorist organization by the U.S. and Israel—cannot retain power in Gaza. The US views the Egyptian plan as inadequate in addressing security concerns, insisting that Hamas must be eliminated rather than included in any governance framework.

Israel’s Rejection: Like US, Israeli government, under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has trashed the plan as detached from reality. PM argues that it ignores Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack that killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostages, sparking the war. Israel’s Foreign Ministry calls it “rooted in outdated perspectives”. However, Israel backs Trump’s idea of resettling Palestinians elsewhere, claiming it offers Gazans “free choice.” Israel also opposes any PA role in Gaza, vowing permanent security control over the territory and the complete destruction of Hamas as a military and governing force.
