In another piece of heart-rending news in the wake of attacks on religious minorities in Bangladesh, a 42-year-old member of an Ansar organisation was shot dead in a garment factory in the district of Mymensingh. This incident occurred on Monday night, adding to worries about the security of Hindus in Bangladesh.

Fatal Shooting At Sultana Sweaters Limited

The victim has been identified as Bajendra Biswas. The victim was carrying out his security duties at Sultana Sweaters Limited (Labib Group), which was located in the Mehrabari area of Bhaluka Upazila. The police reports indicated that the incident occurred at 6:45 PM on 29th Dec 2025 inside the Ansar barracks.

His name is Biswas, while his locality is in the village of Kadirpur in Sylhet Sadar. His family primarily relies on him because he is their

‘Prank’ Gone Wrong Or Calculated Conspiracy?

The Bhaluka police have arrested Biswas’s colleague, Noman Mia (29), in connection with the shooting. Preliminary investigations suggest that while the two were conversing, Noman allegedly pointed his government-issued shotgun at Biswas as a “joke.”

The weapon discharged, hitting Biswas in his left thigh. He was rushed to the Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. While the police are currently investigating it as an accidental discharge, local Hindu community leaders are questioning whether the “prank” was a cover for a targeted attack, given the volatile atmosphere in the region.

Pattern Of Violence In Bhaluka

The shooting has caused widespread alarm, as it occurred in the same sub-district where another Hindu youth, Dipu Chandra Das, was brutally lynched and set on fire just 11 days prior on December 18.

The proximity of these two incidents in Bhaluka has led human rights organisations to raise serious concerns about a growing pattern of violence and the lack of effective security for minorities in Bangladesh’s industrial hubs.

Legal Action And Security Concerns

Police have seized the government-issued shotgun and registered a murder case against Noman Mia, who hails from the Tahirpur area of Sunamganj district.

“The accused is in custody, and a thorough investigation is underway to determine if there was any underlying motive beyond the claimed accidental shooting,” a local police official stated. The incident has intensified calls for the interim government to provide impartial investigations and ensure the safety of Hindu personnel serving in state security roles.
