Actor Kunal Kapoor, best known for films like Aamir Khan-starrer Rang De Basanti and Aaja Nachle, has welcomed his first child with his wife Naina Bachchan. Naina is the niece of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan. The couple, who tied the knot in 2015, has become parents to a baby boy. 

The Empire actor took to his official social media on Monday to share the good news with his fans and followers and left everyone surprised. “To all our well-wishers, Naina and I are overjoyed to share that we have become proud parents to a beautiful baby boy,” read their statement

 “We thank God for our abundant blessings,” it further added, along with an Om symbol and evil eye emoji. 

Actors Hrithik Roshan, Angad Bedi, Akshay Oberoi and others took to the comments section to congratulate the couple. Hrithik, who is Kunal’s close friend, wished the first time parents by dropping several heart emojis and added, “From hrithik machu.” Hrithik’s ex-wife Suzzane Khan, who also shares a great bond with Kunal, wrote, “bigggesttt congratulations kuns n nains.. u are gonna be incredible parents.” Meanwhile, Naina’s cousin sister Shweta Bachchan commented, “love you all.” 

For those unversed, Naina is a former investment banker. She’s the daughter of Amitabh Bachchan’s brother Ajitabh. Kunal and Naina tied the knot in a private family ceremony in Seychelles in 2015. While Kunal prefers to keep his personal life away from the public eyes, reports say that the couple was introduced to each other by Shweta.

After their intimate wedding, Nanina’s cousins Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan had held a grand party. It was attended by pop star Ed Sheeran, Aamir Khan, Hrithik, Shah Rukh Khan’s wife Gauri and others. 

Welcoming Kunal to the family, Big B had penned in his blog, “We are united today with another that now is our own… what a wonderful way of bringing in reverence to this sacred bond of togetherness and union… Weddings to me are the coming together of two families into one… This union is greater and more admirable than the marriage itself… This is the association that makes the togetherness feel pure and united…”
