Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to visit Jammu and Kashmir in October as a part of Narendra Modi-led BJP government’s mega outreach programme, reports said .

Shah is expected to visit both Jammu and Kashmir regions from October 23-25.

The Union home minister is expected to review the security situation in Jammu & Kashmir with LG Manoj Sinha, police and security forces as well as the ongoing development of the central government-funded projects.

The visit assumes great significance as Shah would be visiting the Union Territory for the first time after the abrogation of Article 370.

The Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre has started a mega outreach programme in Jammu and Kashmir with nearly 70 Union Ministers likely to visit the Union Territory in the near future.

In January 2020, the Union government had sanctioned a development package of Rs 80,000 crore for Jammu & Kashmir for several developmental schemes.

An official told ANI on anonymity that “the Minister will visit the Union Territory for at least three days. The date may shift from October 22 to October 24 or it will be the same October 23 to October 25”.

As per the official Shah will “lay the foundation stone of some projects, inaugurate a few developmental projects and chair different meetings over security and developmental issues”.

Shah will be touring the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region and interact with the locals to get first-hand knowledge of the status of the projects started by the government.
