Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi will visit poll-bound Gujarat to address a meeting of tribals in Dahod.
Gandhi’s visit also comes amid internal bickering in the Gujarat unit of the party ahead of Assembly polls scheduled to be held later this year.
During his visit, the Congress leader will be addressing a public meeting ‘Adivasi Satyagraha Rally’ at Navjivan Arts and Commerce College in Dahod, the party said.
Later in the day, Gandhi would address a meeting of Congress MLAs at Swami Vivekanand Sankul, Govind Nagar in Dahod.
During his visit, the former Congress chief is also scheduled to hold another meeting with Gujarat tribal leaders at the same venue.
The visit comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a tribal meet – Adivasi Mahasammelan (Tribal Convention) – in Dahod on April 20 where he announced the setting up of a Rs 20,000-crore railway workshop.
Recently, a tribal leader and legislator Ashwin Kotwal resigned from the party and joined the BJP. With Kotwal’s resignation, opposition Congress’s strength in the state Assembly has come down to 63. The BJP has 111 MLAs in the Assembly.
There have been reports of the internal rift in the Gujarat unit of the party.
Last week, Gujarat Congress Committee working president Hardik Patel, removed “Congress” from his Twitter bio, setting off speculation about his exit. Patel recently expressed discontentment with the state party leadership.
