Amar Upadhyay on career mistakes he made: I didn’t choose the right producers

Amar Upadhyay is best known for his role as Mihir from Star Plus’ hit soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The actor had joined the cast of the show in 2000, but bid adieu in 2002, to try his luck in films. The actor, who was part of one of the longest-running TV soaps, had failed in achieving his Bollywood dreams.

During an exclusive interview with Times Now Digital, the actor opened up about his career mistakes and said that he did not choose the right producers for his movies.

“People came to me but I did not choose the right producers and directors who could promote me at all level. Regret happens and it is a very natural human emotion. It was my decision and I do not blame anyone, not even myself. It was a learning experience and what faith had decided earlier,” he said.

Talking about how he learnt from his failures Amar said that, he had made his own mistakes which were not small. He does not have a godfather in the industry. Amar feels, “Every Friday your faith is decided, whether you will stay here or not. One tends to get a little insecure, restless. You want to do everything that comes your way. That’s what happened. I wanted to do everything that came my way.”

Although, Amar does not feel that there are biases in Bollywood when it comes to TV stars. “No, not now, earlier maybe biases were there. When I did films at that time you can use the word bias. The audience never accepted. SRK had done Fauji and Circus. People accepted him hugely in movies. Film producers signed him,” he quipped.

Further, in the interview, Amar also spoke about his audition days. He feels that during his time, auditions used to take place differently. “People used to ask for auditions on mobile only. They used to call us on the landline. We used to take a bus and go, then go and give the auditions. We used to get to mug up lines. Now we just get lines on Whatsapp. It is very easy and simpler now. Having said that, it is also very difficult as there are so many people giving auditions now. Maybe competition was lesser and now it is more”, the actor said.

On the work front, the actor has returned to the small screen with Molkki. He essays the role of Virender Pratap Singh- a sarpanch from Haryana, who is a widower.
