Amanda Anisimova Gets Emotional After Losing Wimbledon Final To Iga Swiatek, Says ‘I Know I Didn’t Have…’

Amanda Anisimova stood numb on Centre Court, her eyes welling with tears as she lost the Wimbledon final. The scoreboard at her back read a brutal truth: 6-0, 6-0 a double bagel within 57 minutes. She silently swiped her face with the back of her hand. The mood within Centre Court became somber, the silence at last giving way to a warm, long ovation. The crowd stood, attempting to console her with their applause, a respectful gesture, though one which could little mitigate the moment.

Anisimova remained stationary, her eyes looking down as she held the runner-up trophy. When presented with the microphone, her voice was little more than a whisper.

“My mom is the most selfless person I know, and she’s done everything to get me to this point in my life,” Amanda’s father died in 2017 when she was just 17

“So thank you for being here and breaking the superstition of flying in.” Amanda acknowledging her mother in tears

“It’s definitely not why I lost today.” Amanda on her 57-minute defeat

“I’m so happy that I get to share this moment and for you to be here and witness this in person. I know you don’t get to see me live, playing, that much anymore, because you do so much for my sister and I, and you always have,” Anisimova said.

“I know I didn’t have enough today, but I’m going to keep putting in the work,” Anisimova said. “And I always believe in myself, so I hope to be back here one day.”

While addressing the crowd, Amanda Anisimova broke down in tears after the heartbreaking loss to Iga Swiatek. But she credited her mother as the most ‘selfless’ person and reflected on her game in the Wimbledon final.
