Mohammad Nabi, the veteran all-rounder from Afghanistan will retire from One Day International cricket after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Afghanistan Cricket Board chief executive Naseeb Khan confirmed this in an interview with Cricbuzz. Nabi, who has captained the Afghan national team, informed board officials of his retirement plans. However, Khan clarified that the 39-year-old is still intended to play for Afghanistan in T20Is.

Mohammad Nabi Set To Retire From ODIs

“Yes, Nabi is retiring from ODIs after the Champions Trophy and he informed the board about his desire,” Naseeb told Cricbuzz. “He told me few months back that he wants to end his ODI career after the Champions Trophy and we welcome his decision. After the Champions Trophy, what I understand is that, he is expected to continue his T20 career, and that is the plan until now,” he added.

A Magnificent ODI Career

Nabi has represented Afghanistan as he has appeared in 165 ODIs, 3 Test matches, and 129 T20Is. His batting for Afghanistan has been a gritty operation; he has scored 3,549 runs in ODIs with an average of 27.30. The runs included two centuries and 17 half-centuries. With his exceptional bowling skills, he has picked up 171 wickets at an economy of 4.27.

Mohammad Nabi: A Very Crucial Player For Afghanistan

Even at this age, Nabi remains Afghanistan’s most important player in the ODI format, as he was in their first ODI of a Bangladesh series against them. At 71/5, Afghanistan were losing, but Nabi produced an important knock of 84 with a strike rate of 106.32 to save his team and take them into a respectable total. He also did the most important part with the bat, dismissing Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and then played a crucial hand in holding back the Bangladesh run chase.
