Adani’s Haifa Port Remains Unharmed Amid Iranian Missile Strikes, Cargo Operations Normal

The Haifa port in Israel, operated by Indian billionaire Gautam Adani was not damaged by the Iranian ballistic missile attack, sources confirmed. The cargo operations are normal and functioning without any disruption. Notably, Iran had targeted oil refinery and Israel’s Haifa port on Saturday night, in response to Tel Aviv’s attack on Iranian nuclear and military sites.

According to two sources familiar with the incident, shrapnels fell in the chemical terminal at the Haifa port, and several projectiles struck the nearby oil refinery. However, Adani’s port was not impacted by the missile strike. Furthermore, no injuries were reported. Also, a piece of interceptor shrapnel was found at the Kishan West (Haifa port) but there were no injuries.

On the cargo operations at the Adani-operated port amid Iranian strikes, a source stated that it was unhampered. “There are eight ships in the port now, cargo operations are normal,” added the source. Moreover, they claimed that the Iranian ballistic missile attack did not cause any damage to the port or its operations.

Notably, Adani group has not issued an immediate comment on the incident, and Israeli government authorities could not be reached for a response.

Haifa Port is an in important maritime hub, managing over 30 per cent of Israel’s imports. It is majorly owned by Adani Ports, which holds a 70% stake. While missiles may have inflicted damage to a major oil refinery located near the port, there has been no official statement on it.

Haifa accounts for less than 2% of the volume handled by Adani Ports and SEZ and contributes about 5% of the revenue.  APSEZ manages a total cargo volume of 10.57 million tonnes.

Israel had attacked Iran on Friday targeting its nuclear, missile and military infrastructure. Tehran too retaliated with missile strikes on Israel later. The series of attacks by both countries continued for third day on Sunday, escalating the conflict further.

Iran claimed that Israel attacked its two oil refineries, escalating tensions targeting Iran’s heavily sanctioned energy sector, which could affect global markets. Despite Israel’s strong air defences, some Iranian missiles evaded them to successfully strike buildings in the city.
