Abhinav Mukund Questions RR’s Expensive Buys In IPL Auction After RR Gets Out Of Playoffs

Ex CSK opener Abhinav Mukund makes bold statement regarding RR’s players and also raised questions on RR’s auction approach after their defeat in the RR vs MI match. RR dropped out of IPL 2025 playoff contention due to being beaten by a hundred runs against MI during their Jaipur match. MI scored 217/2 after winning the toss during the match when Sandeep Sharma and Wanindu Hasaranga departed the team. During this third game in succession RR allowed opposing teams to top 200-run totals while previously they had let GT and RCB achieve the same feat.

Abhinav Mukund’s Statement Regarding RR

“Their one good bowler, the one they have spent most money on, is Archer. Unfortunately, their Indian pick did not go well. Tushar Deshpande, who was benched for this particular game, was bought for a lot of money (INR 6.75 crore). Then again, you had three plus one something that you invested in two more Indian batters, Nitish Rana and Vaibhav Suryavanshi,” said Mukund.

“How much ever I think, I would have still not bought Vaibhav Suryavanshi for INR 1.1 crore, and Nitish Rana for INR 3 crore (INR 4.2 crore). I would have invested that money in a couple of good bowlers. Look at their bowling last year, forget the big names, you still got Avesh Khan, Chahal, Ashwin, Trent Boult, and Sandeep Sharma, these are five bankable proper bowlers,” added Mukund.

RR’s Performance In IPL This Season

The 11 matches played by Rajasthan Royals (RR) during IPL 2025 resulted in a troublesome record of 3 wins accompanied by 8 losses. Rajasthan Royals faces slim prospects of reaching the playoffs due to their negative net run rate of -0.780 alongside 6 points in the table. Recent matches indicate a challenging season for the team as they have lost all but one of the last five encounters (L, W, L, L, L). As the competition continued the Rajasthan Royals struggled to maintain consistency resulting in a disappointing placement according to the tournament rankings.
