In his one and a half decade long career, Abhay Deol is tagged as the off-beat actor who likes to take on fresh roles and strives to step away from the mainstream demands. Having experimented with various styles, Abhay is paving the way for the South Asian community with his upcoming project, Spin. Besides his niche performances, Abhay’s social media game is also catching on and recently button-down photos have left his fans gasping for breath.
In an exclusive interview with Times Now Digital, Abhay opened up about the same and laughed, “I was very shy of social media in general,” adding that Instagram grabbed his attention. “I think a few months ago I decided why the hell am I holding myself back and I’m not really keen on Facebook or Twitter but Instagram is a platform that I was ‘ok this is something I can play with’. For me, what was important was to have fun with it.”
He shares that as a person he has never felt insecure about his choices nor does he harbour any inhibitions. Therefore, putting oneself on display on social media was something he could explore.
“I don’t have any boundaries or inhibitions in any case as a person I never did. But I suppose to shy away from social media was a boundary was an inhibition, so I thought ‘oh wait a minute, I actually do. So, let’s break that as well.’ So yeah, I’m just having fun. I’m glad people are liking it. I’d like to keep exploring that space and playing with it and collaborating with other artistes – whether it is photographers, videographers, painters. You’ll see a lot more unfolding on my page as the weeks progress,” he said.
However, the world of social media has also been quite a harrowing place for celebs, especially due to constant trolling. The actor, who has also fallen prey to it in the past, opened up about it and shared how it doesn’t affect him and unlike most stars, he doesn’t switch his Instagram comments section.
“I don’t care. Your abuses, your screaming, your judgement of me says more about you and it doesn’t say anything about me. I’m very lucky, I’m someone who is so secure in where he comes from, it doesn’t matter to me. I understand that being a woman, threats and all can matter. I don’t know. I would never disagree with someone who gets affected by it because I can understand why they would be. But I don’t get affected by it,” he said.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Abhay will be seen in the upcoming Disney movie, Spin. The film will feature Abhay as a dad to a high schooler who is a DJ aspirant. Spin will stream on Disney Plus Hotstar on August 15.
