AAP to contest on all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab; rules out alliance with any party

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday announced that it will contest on all 117 Assembly seats on its own in the upcoming Punjab election and form the government in the state.

AAP’s Punjab co-incharge Raghav Chadha said that his party will not forge an alliance with any political party for the next year’s Assembly polls in the state.

“AAP will fight the 2022 elections on its own. There will be no alliance with any party. And the party will contest all 117 Assembly seats on its own and will form the government,” said the AAP leader when asked whether the Arvind Kejriwal-led party will stitch an alliance with any political party for the upcoming polls.

Meanwhile, a senior Congress leader from Muktsar Gurmit Singh Khudian on Monday joined the AAP in the presence of Chadha and AAP’s Punjab unit chief Bhagwant Mann

Chadha had on Sunday dismissed a report on a possible tie-up with the Shiromani Akali Dal (United) for the Punjab polls.

“As the co-incharge of AAP Punjab, I would like to make it clear that no decision has been taken on an alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (United) and we are not in talks,” he had tweeted.

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal recently promised 300 units of free electricity and round-the-clock power supply in poll-bound Punjab if his party wins the next year’s Assembly election.

The 2022 Punjab Assembly elections are likley to be held in February-March, to elect 117 members. The term of the current Assembly elected in 2017 will expire on March 27, 2022 unless dissolved sooner.

Presently, Congress is in the power in the state with 77 seats while AAP is the main opposition party with 20 seats to its name.
