Aam Aadmi Party to contest 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, announces Arvind Kejriwal

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that his party will contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2022.

“AAP will contest in the next Assembly polls in UP. People from UP are asking us to provide the same facilities and governance as Delhi,” said Kejriwal.

The Delhi CM further said that the development of Uttar Pradesh has been held back by “dirty politics” and “corrupt leaders” there.

“The political parties in Uttar Pradesh stabbed people in the back. Politics in state lacks honesty of intent,” the AAP leader added.

Kejriwal also questioned why people from Uttar Pradesh should have to look at Delhi for health services and education, adding that Mohalla clinics, free electricity, water, good education and health facilities can also be provided in the state.

The AAP leader asserted that his party would prove that governance is not restricted by resources and instil honest intentions.

AAP sets eyes on UP

For the past three years, Delhi’s ruling party has been trying to make inroads in several other states outside the national capital but has been unsuccessful in its attempts.

The party has now set its sights on Uttar Pradesh, an overcrowded political space, where Assembly polls are slated for early 2022.

Even as nearly one year is left for Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Arvind Kejriwal party has already launched public campaigns on various several key issues in different parts of the state.
