Indian shooter Avani Lekhara continued to bring laurels for the country as she bagged her second medal at Paralympics 2020, a bronze, after winning a gold medal earlier in the showpiece event. On Friday, Avani won a bronze medal in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3P SH1 final. Lekhara had earlier won a gold medal at the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event.

Wishes poured in from all corners for Lekhara – who has created history at the Paralympics despite being just 19 years of age.

Abhinav Bindra, the first Indian athlete to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics, hailed Lekhara’s show and called it ‘a performance for the ages.’

“.@AvaniLekhara, take a bow young lady! A Bronze in 50m Rifle to add to your historic Gold at the #Tokyo2020 Paralympics. A performance for the ages! Many Congratulations #Praise4Para,” tweeted Abhinav Bindra.

PM Narendra Modi also expressed his joy and said he was elated with Lekhar’s record performance and wished her luck for her future endeavours.

“More glory at the Tokyo #Paralympics . Elated by the stupendous performance of @AvaniLekhara. Congratulations to her on bringing home the Bronze medal. Wishing her the very best for her future endeavours. #Praise4Para,” wrote PM Modi.

“India’s Golden Girl – Amazing Avani !!! @AvaniLekhara has been absolutely awesome at #Tokyo2020 #Paralympics by winning her 2nd medal ! History has been made ! Bronze in Women’s 50m Rifle 3P SH1 final,” tweeted Sports Minister Anurag Thakur.

Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju praised Avani for creating history at the Paralympics 2020.

“A proud moment as @AvaniLekhara has won her spectacular 2nd medal #Tokyo2020 #Paralympics. She won Bronze medal in Women’s 50m Rifle 3P SH1 and created a history for India,” Rijiju tweeted.

After returning with just four medals at Rio Paralympics 2016, Indian Paralympians have produced a brilliant show in Tokyo – where India’s medal count has reached 12 following Lekhara’s bronze medal.
