No LBW, No Catch-Out, Just Pure-Chaos! Kane Williamson Gets Dismissed In The Strangest Way

On Day 1 of the third Test between New Zealand and England on December 14, veteran New Zealand batter Kane Williamson faced a bizarre and frustrating dismissal. The veteran, in an attempt to block a delivery by England pacer Matthew Potts, inadvertently kicked the ball onto the stumps. A freakish dismissal left Williamson stunned, thus marking the end of a promising innings.

Williamson’s Knock Ends In Bizarre Way

New Zealand had a good start to the day with 105-run opening partnership between Will Young and captain Tom Latham. When Williamson came in at No. 3, he further capitalized on the momentum by creating a solid 44 off 87 balls. But his promising knock ended in a dramatic and unexpected manner. A delivery from Potts deflected off his pads, ricocheting towards the stumps. In an attempt to block the ball with his leg, Williamson accidentally nudged it into the stumps, resulting in his dismissal.

Williamson reacted with frustration and a sense of disappointment to the dismissal, visibly showing this as his head was dropped and dismay had spread on his face, showing that even Williamson couldn’t compose himself before such an unusual dismissal. And it became a turning wicket for New Zealand, since England got a couple of quick wickets there.

New Zealand’s Collapse After Williamson’s Departure

The openers did a great job, but New Zealand’s innings just collapsed from a comfortable 105/1 to 232/7 by the middle of the third session. The only resistance from the top order of the BlackCaps was Williamson’s 44. The middle and lower order of New Zealand struggled against England’s disciplined bowlers.

New Zealand Faces Uphill Battle In Final Test

As New Zealand enter the final Test of the series, they will be desperate to avoid a whitewash after losing the first two matches. Williamson’s dismissal, which came uncharacteristically for him and the inability of the side to cash in on a very good opening partnership, have left New Zealand in a very sticky situation. Only Williamson has shown any resilience before his exit, and New Zealand have a difficult task to score a competitive total in their first innings at Hamilton.

This bizarre dismissal will certainly find its place in cricketing history as one of the most weird moments, but New Zealand will need a fight back to stay in contention with the match.
